Pizza Express to open delivery sites.

Pizza Express, the Hony Capital backed group, has plans to move into the delivery market. The plans, coming just as Pizza Express celebrates the 50th anniversary of its UK opening, mark of the biggest developments in the group’s history. The delivery offer was introduced into two of its site in central London last month. Over the next five years the plan is to open 150 dedicated delivery sites, creating around 2,500 jobs. Chief executive of Pizza Express Richard Hodgson said: “I don’t think it was a particular moment of genius to think that pizzas could be delivered. Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and a whole host of independent players do a great job delivering pizza around the world. We have a great business outside of our restaurants already, we sell 34 million pizzas through the likes of Tesco and Waitrose. We have looked at the technology around the supply chain and the ability have them cooked in a ‘just in time way’ and we are very confident after extensive trials that we can deliver our handmade authentic Italian-style pizza, warm and crisp to customers’.
