Customers choosing branded groups over independent restaurants.

Customers are more likely to spend at branded restaurants and pubs rather than choose independent operators for food and drink. New figures from the NPD Group show branded groups took 56% of the market share for ‘Eating Out Of Home (OOH)’ by the end of September 2016, compared to the 44% for independent groups. The report said that the branded restaurants were attracting 1.2 billion extra visits than in 2008 (up to 6.8 billion in 2016 compared to 5.03 billion in 2008). Branded restaurants have been focusing more on breakfast options and meal deals with over 36% of traffic coming through these channels, versus just 13% coming through this way for independents.
