25% of income spent dining out

UK consumers spend nearly a quarter of their annual net income on eating out according to a recent poll by Open Table. This equates to more than £4,100 per year, 1.5 times a week and spending up to £53 per meal.

The research also found that over 50% of UK diners spend the majority of their income on food, rather than going out, shopping or leisure activities.

Age was also seen to be a factor, as over 55s tend to eat out half as much as 18-24 year olds, despite earning an average of 30% more.
