Need some ideas for Father’s Day? Look no further…
It’s Father’s Day this Sunday, and if you’re like me you’re still figuring out how to make it a special one. It would be easy enough to grab a pair of socks from M&S and a box of Ferrero Rocher from the petrol station, but I’m looking to take my dad somewhere a bit special and memorable. So here’s a few ideas. If your dad is anything like mine he’ll love a huge family affair, a bit of something for everyone in a nice surrounding:
American style restaurant Coast to Coast is a good shout. Even the fussy eaters (let’s admit it we all have one in the family) will be truly satisfied. From cocktails to milkshakes and burgers to pizzas, there’s enough to please all. Make sure you save enough space for dessert and get the chocolate brownie, it’s a personal favourite of mine.
Related to some wine fanatics? Then why not treat the dads of the family to a bottle or two at Vinoteca. The site at King’s Cross is my go-to one. There is a 20-strong changing list of wines by the glass plus scribbled announcements about specials and mixed cases to buy. Perfect for big families – you can try a bottle each! The menu is also carefully crafted to be paired with the wine list.
Not able to see your dad this Sunday? Fear not, you can send him a present that I can guarantee he won’t have and that’s smoked-meat flavour scented aftershave. Yep, you can thank me later. The guys from Red’s True Barbeque have created ‘Meat Water’ which is being described as ‘a manly scent of slow smoked pulled pork in time for the BBQ season’. It has hints of pepper, earth, smoked oak and meat. This father’s day customers will be able to purchase bottles of the aftershave for £20, which will also be accompanied by a huge 1.5kg beef ‘Dino’ rib to eat.
Who doesn’t love a good old steak? Well unless you’re related to a bunch of herbivores (admittedly, I’ve just watched Jurassic World), why not hire the private dining room at Hawksmoor? You may not be able to hire this room at such short notice, but it’s definitely one to keep in mind for next year. The restaurant offers brilliant no-nonsense cocktails and unusual cuts of steak accompanied by tasty sides. Veal rump with fried oysters, triple cooked chips, creamed spinach, baked sweet potatoes and roasted field mushrooms with a Blood Mary, please? Yeah and what is it that you want again dad?
