My first week as Marketing Assistant
No one really looks forward to Monday mornings, but getting ready for my first week as Marketing Assistant at Chapman Ventilation Ltd (CVL) has never been so easy. I was eager to start my role and excited to be a part of the Marketing team.
Walking into the office on my first day I instantly noticed was that my desk had been arranged and organised which made me feel part of the team. After an in-depth marketing induction things started to get serious when I was given my arm’s length to-do list, and I’m not even exaggerating.
My first task was to research and gain an understanding of the restaurant industry which consisted of thoroughly looking through market reports and news on websites such as MCA and the Big Hospitality. This gave me an insight of our clients, as well as making me so hungry.
During the week I wrote my first news article to go onto the CVL website using WordPress, a programme that I’m learning to use. Once it was perfected, I uploaded the article making my own mark on the website. Another part of my role as the Marketing Assistant is to update the CVL social media platforms. Having experience of Hootsuite (platform for managing social media) I scheduled some posts regarding an upcoming event – The Great North Run raising money for The Sepsis Trust UK.
The highlight of my week was coordinating the monthly Afternoon Tea. There was pressure to get it right as it’s a date in everyone’s calendar. The first task was to write the agenda pulling information from across the business which involved working with other departments such as HR, Finance and the owners of the company. I also had the task of ordering cakes enough to feed an army and keep everyone happy. There was a real buzz around the monthly raffle which I managed, this was a good way for me to get to know everyone and build working relationships as well as raising £119 for the three corporate charities: The Sepsis Trust UK, Isabel Hospice and Motor Neurone Disease Association.
My first week in the Marketing Department was busy but I loved it. I really enjoyed meeting everyone across the business and having the responsibility to work independently. I am looking forward to learn more and make my own stamp on the Marketing Team.
